Lighting Solutions for people, places and the environment

Creating interest and safety in the hours of darkness

Light has the power to transform how we see buildings and their surroundings, supporting orientation and wayfinding, adding interest to the everyday, and creating impactful experiences. We offer a comprehensive choice of luminaires to bring building exteriors and surrounds to life, complementing architecture, providing definition and identity whilst approaching the application with dark sky sensitivity in mind.

Urban Life Lighting

Light for People, Places and the Environment

Light should provide clear, low-glare illumination for pedestrians, drivers and cyclists. Light can give people the safety and confidence to explore the city after dark, and create new night-time experiences.
The lighting within an urban space should be ready to adapt to the full variety of outdoor situations. With the right balance of horizontal and vertical illumination, as well as the possibility of colour, scene creation and dynamic effects, light can reinvent the identity of a space.
Light has a big impact on the nocturnal ecosystem. It should not only avoid disturbing nature and the night sky, but should also be energy-efficient, to save resources and support sustainability. Careful control of the luminous flux makes sure light is only used when and where it is needed.

CREATING COMFORT, SAFETY AND STYLE

When it comes to lighting urban streets it's important to consider both daytime and nighttime aesthetic.Additional street furniture like banners may cause weight problems with columns and increase the windage loading so it's important to factor this into the lighting scheme when selecting a luminaire.
Conflict areas, such as junctions, can be reinforced by the use of different lamp colours to distinguish a change of road classification or area definition.
Use of lighting controls can help to reduce power consumption, increase the lifetime of the installation and optimise maintenance operations.
Visual perception of a space can be improved by providing good colour rendering conditions for road users and residents alike.

Lighting parks and plazas - BEST PRACTICE

Safety in the great outdoors

Lighting within an urban space, namely a park, plaza or promenade can enable and encourage social interaction for the ever changing needs and expectations of a community. Integrated lighting can provide a sense of place in the hours of darkness thereby increasing accessible spaces at night where people can meet, enjoy & congregate.
A key lighting consideration, whether it is a plaza or landscape is the role of the lighting is within its context. Is it providing a centre piece, a meeting point or a route through to a final destination ? Consideration must be given to how the surroundings are already lit, assuming they are not already part of the masterplan, how can there be a balance and that one is not fighting with the other, that they feed into each other instead.
Consider whether the lighting is being designed to increase the dwell time of an open public plaza, inviting them to spend time, by creating pockets of light, personal space or is it a about a route through and maybe a more uniform lit effect is required to define the route.
