A Modern Lighting Solution for an Edwardian School
Broughton Primary School in Edinburgh, originally built during the Edwardian era, has undergone significant refurbishments to create an optimal learning environment. A key goal of the project was to provide a high-quality lighting system that enhances student concentration, supports staff, and improves overall energy efficiency. Thorn Lighting was tasked with delivering a solution that met modern educational needs while complementing the school’s architectural character.
Thorn Lighting implemented an advanced, low-maintenance lighting system tailored to different areas of the school. IQ Wave Suspended luminaires were installed in classrooms, offering superior glare control (UGR <19) and a balanced light distribution that enhances visibility and comfort. With built-in BasicDim Wireless technology, the system enables automatic daylight sensing and presence detection, optimizing energy use.
Additionally, HiPak Pro LED provides precise, energy-efficient illumination in the gym hall, while the durable Aquaforce Pro ensures reliable lighting in storage areas.
High-Performance Luminaires with Lasting Benefits
The lighting upgrade extends beyond classrooms, with Glacier pendant luminaires enhancing the entrance hall and central atrium, offering a blend of aesthetics and functionality.
Outside, Piazza LED bulkheads provide secure, well-distributed illumination with minimal upward light spill. By integrating advanced lighting controls and high-efficiency LEDs, the new system achieves energy savings of up to 75%, while also fostering a well-lit, engaging, and productive learning environment for students and teachers alike.
"The right lighting not only enhances visibility but also fosters focus, comfort, and a positive learning atmosphere for students and teachers alike."
