Summary: Derbyshire County Council's LED Street Lighting Upgrade

Derbyshire County Council, overseeing over 89,000 streetlights, initiated a project to replace energy-intensive SON-T lanterns in residential areas. The objectives were to reduce operating costs, meet CO₂ reduction targets, and implement a more efficient, long-lasting lighting solution. Thorn Lighting secured the tender to supply the necessary lighting for various locations across Derbyshire.

Lighting Solution: Thorn's CiviTEQ LED Luminaires

Thorn Lighting provided its CiviTEQ LED luminaires, known for their cost-effectiveness and adaptability to various installation layouts. These luminaires feature the patented R-PEC® optic, designed to deliver safe and efficient lighting on residential streets and busy roads. With 12 precise light distributions, CiviTEQ offers unparalleled versatility. Additionally, the luminaires are dimmable, with a bi-power switch allowing on-site activation or deactivation of dimming, further enhancing energy efficiency.
A quiet suburban street at night is illuminated by streetlights, with houses and trees lining both sides. The road is empty, and the scene feels calm and peaceful.

Products and Benefits: Energy Savings and Reduced Maintenance

The implementation of Thorn's CiviTEQ LED luminaires maximizes energy savings and reduces maintenance requirements. By dimming the lights in most locations to a maximum of 50% output between midnight and 5 am, further savings are achieved. Given the rising electricity prices, it's projected that the capital investment for the LED switch could be recouped in just over eight years.

"By upgrading to Thorn's energy-efficient LED solutions, we have significantly reduced our street lighting costs while contributing to our sustainability goals. The transition to LED technology not only saves energy but also enhances the safety and quality of our street lighting for residents and visitors alike."
