Enhancing Learning with Acoustic LED Lighting

The Neue Mittelschule in Anger, Austria, faced challenges with high noise levels and outdated lighting that affected both teaching and student concentration. The goal was to create a modern, well-lit, and acoustically optimized learning space that would improve communication and energy efficiency.
By integrating Thorn’s Arena Symphony luminaires, the school aimed to reduce reverberation, enhance lighting quality, and lower energy consumption while maintaining a contemporary design.

Smart Lighting for Better Acoustics and Efficiency

Thorn's Arena Symphony LED luminaires, which combine sound-absorbing materials with high-performance LED modules, were installed in classrooms and corridors. These suspended luminaires provide both direct and indirect lighting, ensuring even illumination while significantly reducing noise levels. Thanks to their innovative acoustic properties, they absorb excess sound, creating a quieter environment where students can focus better. In addition, their sleek design complements modern educational spaces without the need for extensive ceiling modifications.

The installation of Arena Symphony luminaires has transformed the learning experience at the Neue Mittelschule. Noise levels have been reduced by 50%, ensuring clearer communication between teachers and students. At the same time, the new lighting setup delivers a uniform 300 lux illumination, improving visibility and comfort.
With an impressive 45% reduction in energy consumption, the school benefits from lower operational costs while providing an optimal environment for education. The success of this project has been recognised by both the school administration and the local education authority.
