Energy-Efficient Lighting for a Sustainable Nursery
West Lothian's new £1.5M Passivhaus-standard Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) centre at Blackridge Primary School sets a benchmark in sustainability. Designed for 64 children, the facility ensures energy efficiency, comfort, and a welcoming learning space. Key features include a floodlit 3G Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) and improved access.
High-Performance LED Lighting for Efficiency & Comfort
Following Passivhaus principles, the lighting solution had to be low-energy while providing optimal comfort. WGM Consulting Engineers specified Thorn Lighting for its advanced, education-focused LED solutions, expertly installed by EJ Parker.
Smart Lighting Solutions for Every Area
IQ Wave provides glare-free, uniform lighting in the nursery, fostering focus and communication. Omega Pro 2 ensures energy efficiency in offices and kitchens, Chalice downlights brighten corridors and toilets, while R2L2 luminaires deliver high-performance outdoor lighting for the car park.
A Striking Entrance & Client Endorsement
The standout feature is the entrance, illuminated by a suspended Thorn Equaline system, creating a bright and welcoming space. Elsie Aitken, Development Officer at West Lothian Council, praised: "The lighting is great because it’s flexible and allows the room to be lit to meet the children’s needs. Outdoor play is an important part of the school’s curriculum, so it is great that the external lights will allow the children to play outdoors in the autumn and really enhance the look of the building."
